Monty Waters died yesterday.
Monty was GREAT. He played in the tradition of Charlie Parker and was a fantastic guy too. He had a million anecdotes and knew how to tell them. I was lucky to play many gigs with him.
He will be missed!
Discography (as you will see he recorded with B. Higgins, Ch. Persip's groups and many others) : http://www.montywaters.de/Discography.htm

I met Monty in 1978 at Sweet Basil when he was playing with Joe Lee Wilson. Such a nice guy. He hipped me to Barbara's as a place to go sit in when I first moved to the city. Never worked a regular gig with him but I did play his block party with him once in the early 1980's. I loved him and Jimmy Vass on that ESP Ronnie Boykins recording.
